I’ve experienced magnificent changes in my life and the lives of my family members through “alternative” medicine. I’m talking about practices and methodologies including Ayurveda, Integrated Manual Therapy, Meditation, positive thinking and energy.

Most recently I tried something called binaural beats. I won’t go into too much detail about how it works but you can read more about the theory here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binaural_recording

The first time I used the “music” I had downloaded a free app on my iPad to try. I sat down at my desk to work on a client project and turned it to “energize.” As the name implied, the beats were intended to help you feel energized. Holy smokes!

I felt as if I’d had a shot of caffeine (Minus the jitters). It felt energized and awake. I quickly learned that when you turn the music off, the feeling fades quite quickly – or at least it does for me.

I’ve since used it for reducing headache pain, relaxation and mediation and well as helping with focus and problem solving.

Because it worked so well for me, I dug deeper and found a few programs that offered a broader list of possibilities. I discovered a program (again an application for my iPad) that offered brainstorming, creativity boost and lucid dreaming binaural programs.

Maybe it’s a placebo effect – meaning that I think it’s going to work so it does – however, I had absolutely no expectations from the program the first time I used it and it did work.

If you’re looking for a creative kick start, consider trying this approach. You can find free iPod and iPad applications – search for binaural and check out the most well reviewed apps. You can also find free downloads online. One site is http://healingbeats.com/.

Enjoy and happy writing!
