Where you write is almost as important as how or when you write. The setting and the objects that you surround yourself with can support you to succeed.

For example, I once read that a horror writer wrote his first book at night in his car while parked outside a cemetery. His logic was that it was a quiet place where he wouldn’t be disturbed. However, I suspect had he parked himself in a library or outside a monastery that he wouldn’t have had the same success.

So where do you write?

Most of us write in our homes. I am a fickle writer and often write from the kitchen table in the morning, it’s the sunniest room, and then from my office in the afternoon.

However, wherever I am writing from I make sure to surround myself with objects of inspiration. These are objects or visuals that help you stay focused on the task at hand while also support you to feel creative and inspired.

Here are a few of my objects of inspiration.

Your writing space doesn’t have to be elaborate.

Instead, create a space (or find a space) that supports you to feel inspired and motivated to write. If you’re writing paranormal romance then you might enjoy writing with pictures of werewolves and vampires on your desk. If you’re writing a steampunk novel then you might grab a corset and hot glue a few gears to the front of it. Get creative and identify what might make you feel inspired. There’s no judgement (though I’m sure some folks will furrow their brow at my Yeti).
